A Predatory Soil Mite for Fungus Gnats and Thrips - Hypoaspis miles
Applied Bio-Nomics Ltd. was the world's first commercial producer of Hypoaspis and has a new improved strain for 2000. Both nymphs and adults of this tiny brown mite feed on soil dwelling insects and mites. Feeding trials in Denmark indicate that Hypoaspis eats in order of preference: fungus gnat larvae, thrips pupae, spring-tails, nematodes and leaf miner pupae. Hypoaspis may be applied to rock wool blocks, nursery pots, flats and to the soil to control these pests.

Introduction Rate and Frequency: preventive rate 30 predators/m2 or 30 (1/2 tsp.) predators/rockwool block, sawdust bag or pot (20 litres/ha) introduced once on each new planting.
